Verity – What is the Truth?
I had to read it
Like probably many of you, I heard of this book on Social Media, and of course I had to buy it. This thriller sounded so good that I simply couldn’t resist.
A little warning
I must say that I was surprised by how sexually explicit it is and how violent it gets at times, so just be aware of that before you start reading.
Who is the real Verity?
The plot goes like this: Verity Crawford is a very successful, famous author. She has a wonderful life and family, until tragedy strikes: her family suffers unimaginable loss, and after an accident leaves Verity unable to continue writing, her husband, Jeremy, together with her publishing agency, reaches out to Lowen Ashleigh, an unknown writer, and makes her an offer she cannot refuse: for a considerable amount of money, she has to finish the last two books in Verity’s series as co-author.
Lowen reluctantly accepts because she recently lost her mother, is getting evicted from her apartment, and is in dire need of money. Also, because she finds Jeremy fascinating, but I will leave you to discover that on your own.
She agrees to go to the couple’s house in Vermont, so that she can go through all of Verity’s notes and books in order to start the writing process.
While going through all the documents she finds Verity’s secret autobiography. She can’t help but start reading it. And she cannot stop.
She starts discovering the real Verity, or is that really the case?
What happens after will leave you wondering and asking yourself: What is the truth? Or is Lowen imagining it all?
Why 4 Stars?
This book receives 4 stars out of 5 from me. I finished it in about a week, and I must say that I loved it, but for a book to receive 5 stars from me I must be blown away, and I guess something was missing.
Nevertheless, this is a great page-turner!
And the Movie?
As for the movie? Of course we saw it!
We both found it entertaining, and I don’t understand why some people on social media found it awful. Of course, the book will always be better than the movie. As far as I’m concerned that applies to most movies based on books. A book will always offer you the complete picture with lots of details.
With all of that said, the movie was not bad at all. We both found it entertaining and the cast was great: Anne Hathaway as Verity Crawford, Dakota Johnson as Lowen Ashleigh and Josh Hartnett as Jeremy Crawford.
We both enjoyed the setting and the gloomy atmosphere. I feel like the movie managed to capture the essence of the book.
Could it have been scarier, crazier, more exciting like the book was? Definitely yes! But all in all, it was a good movie.
My Final Take
So my take is: you should absolutely read the book if you like a twisted, crazy story and if you’re curious go see the movie for the great cast and mysterious atmosphere.
Did you read Verity? Did you like it? Did you also see the movie? I would love to hear your thoughts.
Until next time,
Irina
